about

Telling a story of love and hope, ‘Spirit Level’ deftly weaves chunky rhythms and liquid basslines with etheric vocals to create an album full of movement, which shines with positive vibes.

The first track ‘Spirit Level’ is something from a higher plane: grounded in a solid groove, illuminated with sunshine vocals and percussive temptations.

Elevating electronic music to a sacred space are the seamless synths and meditative, introspective interludes of ‘Gavla Maha’ and ‘Move Your Body’, which ebb and flow and feel like rising sun salutations.

‘I Need You Here’, is a track for dancing. Steady as she goes, the crispy snares of this minimalistic drum and bass-y number clip along at a toe-tapping pace.

Grabbing you by the heart strings with its sultry low tones and slow vibes is ‘Happy Birthday (Explicit)’.

Feel into the flow and sway to the syncopated hi-hats of ‘What You Need’; watch the light gleam on those glinty guitar riffs.

The plot thickens with ‘Feels So Good’, the aural equivalent of riding to the sunset with the wind in your hair. Smooth sexy progressions shake down into a lascivious drop in this laid-back cut.
The upbeat high energy vibe continues as ‘Honey Tree’ dials up the tempo a notch or three, with slick synths and techno trickery.

Melt into the melancholic with ‘Can U Feel It’, featuring Max’s son Sol’s gentle rolling drum beats tumble into lullaby vocals tempered with glistening strings and just a hint of sax.

‘Monday Dog’ rounds off the album with its understated groove and powerfully pared back basslines.

Strong yet fragile, uptempo yet ponderously reflective: the common thread which binds this album is Max’s subtle, restrained composition.
‘Spirit Level’ is timeless: a collection of deep, delicious music which exudes mana, and sits with power in its heart.
